Get HELP for Yourself
In the Horowhenua we have services for men, women and children who have experienced family violence. Help is available for those committing family violence as well as the victims.
These include: Horowhenua Family Violence Intervention Programme Inc: offer Mens and Womens group education programmes. Contact them on 06 368 4561 Levin Womens Refuge offer Womens group programmes and the Dragonflies Tamariki programme for children, as well as crisis intervention services. Contact them through 0800 REFUGE Te Runanga o Raukawa offers a womens group education programme and other social support services. Get HELP for someone you know
If someone you know is experiencing family violence you can make a difference and help them get help. Family violence thrives in secrecy and grows in isolation. It is vital that as friends, family and community we all ensure that this issue is talked about and that everyone is aware it is not normal or ok, but that help is available.
If it is a friend or family member find a good time to talk to them, let them know you are there to help. If someone you know is committing family violence let them know it is not ok, and that there is help available. Protection orders
If you are a victim of family violence you can get a protection order. A protection order is enforceable by the police and courts and means that the person who is hurting you can only be in contact with you if you say so. Find out more information about getting a protection order here
