What is family violence??
Family violence is any action which hurts or intimidates someone in your family.
There are many different kinds of Family Violence, they include:
Physical things like pushing, hitting, slapping, punching, kicking, punching holes in walls, or breaking possessions
Emotional things like criticising someone, putting them down, threatening to hurt themselves or someone else, jealousy
Controlling things like where someone can go, who they can talk to, how much money they can have, whether they can work or not.
Neglecting the person by not providing food, shelter, clothing, or not getting medical attention when it is needed.
Children are also affected by hearing or seeing violence between their parents.
Family violence happens in all sectors of society - all socioeconomic groups, all age groups, all cultures, all genders and sexualities. This includes older children abusing their parents and/or grandparents, females abusing their partners, parents/caregivers abusing their children, sibling abuse and dating relationships, as well as the most common situation of a male assaulting a female partner.
In any of these situations IT IS NOT OK, and you can get help.
